I get it, your pup is a part of the family. So, it’s understandable to want to include your dogs in your photo sessions!
Your fur babies deserve to be a part of big events. More and more couples choose to incorporate their dog (or dogs) in their wedding day or engagement photo sessions. I also have many families who opt to include their dog! To make sure things go smoothly, here are my top 5 tips for bringing your dog to your photo session:
Since your dog likely won’t be in every single photo you’ll need some backup during your photo session. Designate a friend or family member to be in charge of holding your dog’s leash, giving treats when necessary, and entertaining them when they’re not being photographed.
Dogs can be picky. It’s always a good idea to take your pup to your photo session location in advance so they can get comfortable. That way, when it’s time for their close up, they’ll be familiar enough with their surroundings to relax and smile for the camera.
Speaking of locations, make sure you choose a location that works for your dog. You know their personality best, so keep it in mind when you and your photographer are discussing potential session locations. For example, if your dog is easily spooked by traffic noise or crowds, don’t choose a spot next to a busy road or a crowded park for your photo session location. If you’re including your dog in your wedding day photos, make sure they’re okay with crowds, and make sure there’s a location at your venue that’s suitable for dogs.
As durable and awesome as your leash probably is, make sure it also looks good in photographs! Choose or purchase a clean, neutral colored leash that won’t draw too much attention in your photos. If you plan on using other doggy accessories, like a bandana or a bow, make sure it’s neutral or it matches you and your partner’s outfits.
Dogs shed. Every dog owner knows that dog hair is a permanent outfit accessory. So, when you’re choosing your outfits for your photo sessions, keep potential shedding in mind. Try to stay away from dark colors for light dog hair, and light colors for dark dog hair. And a lint roller is a must have to bring with you for your session!
Bonus tip: If you want your pup to be a part of your wedding day, there are services available that will bring your dog to and from the venue, and treat your dog like the VIP they are! That way, you can have a worry-free wedding day knowing your fur baby is taken care of. Pawfect for You is a great wedding and event pet care company that serves the Northern VA and Washington DC area!
Finally, being prepared is always a good idea, but pets are often unpredictable (which is one of the reasons we love them so much!) So, if you do choose to include your dog in your big day or your photo session, embrace the unpredictability and have fun with it!
