Spring Magnolia Session at DAR Constitution Hall | Alexine & Caleb

Couples & Engagement

Most people in the DMV area have heard about Cherry Blossom photo sessions, but if you’re looking for a similar vision without all the crowds, the Magnolia bloom in DC, especially at the DAR Constitution Hall, is a fantastic option. The magnolias often photograph more pink than the cherry blossoms, which make them a stunning and unique backdrop. Whether you’re planning an engagement session, maternity session, or some updated photos of you and your spouse, I highly recommend planning for the Magnolias.

Spring Couple’s Session in Washington, DC

I visited one of my favorite locations in the city – DAR Constitution Hall with Alexine and Caleb. We met at sunrise on a very chilly day in early March, but these two braved the cold for some absolutely stunning photos. With the sun peeking through the Magnolia trees and the Washington Monument rising in the background, I love that these capture the beauty of DC in spring. And of course, I couldn’t resist getting some detail shots of Alexine’s gorgeous rings with the magnolia blooms.

The portico at DAR is my favorite place for portrait sessions and outdoor wedding ceremonies during the spring. It overlooks a large, beautiful magnolia tree, with the added bonus of gorgeous stone columns and railings. Located a block away from the National Mall, DAR Constitution Hall is usually a bit less crowded than other iconic buildings in DC while still giving that quintessential DC look. A permit is required for sessions on DAR property, but the first hour is completely free.

Similar to Cherry Blossom sessions, a Magnolia session at DAR Constitution Hall is dependent on when the trees are at peak bloom. So if you’re interested in a session, you’ll want to reach out ahead of time so I can email you when we have an idea of dates. Peak bloom generally occurs in early March, around two weeks before Cherry Blossoms. In addition to DAR Constitution Hall, there are pockets of saucer magnolia trees so together we’ll select the perfect location.

As a Washington, D.C. wedding photographer, I’m a pro at following spring forecasts and anticipating peek blooms of all of your favorite flowers. Reach out to schedule your session!
